New wi-fi trailer to support response to civil defence emergencies

In the 21st Century, internet access is critical to respond quickly to civil defence emergencies, however when the Rangitīkei district has suffered floods and other natural events in the past, Council has been left without power and Wi-Fi when it was needed most.

To make sure we are ready to respond to any critical events in the future, Council has acquired a new WOI Wi-Fi trailer. The trailer is designed to supply emergency power and internet for up to seven days without a recharge, even in remote or rural locations, making it an essential tool during times of crisis.

With many council IT systems now being cloud based, our new trailer will make sure that council and our emergency services partners can access the internet whenever we need it.

“Woi internet is thrilled to be able to provide this emergency solution to Rangitikei. It would be the second trailer we have supplied in-country and supports our growth into emergency communications. We also support LandSAR in Oxford in a similar way” Woi CEO Richard Broadbridge said.

The trailer will also be available for our community to use during events.

About Woi:

Woi is owned by MMG Communications NZ. It is a satellite internet provider in Aotearoa New Zealand and was formed as a response to Covid lockdowns in 2020. With more Kiwi’s moving from urban to rural areas, there was a need to supply reliable internet via satellite with a local support team, available seven days a week. The WIFI trailer is kitted with batteries, solar panels, a 7 metre telescopic mast, inverter and 1+1 satellite electronics. It is designed to provide power for emergency crews as well as internet in times of crisis.
